I’ve had this super cold for a while now (longer than 2 weeks = for a while) and haven’t had the strength to go out beyond my four walls to capture some nice shots. As I was lying on the sofa wrapped up in a warm blanket, watching the most recent Netflix addition, I suddenly had this idea. Why not take photos of the series and films I’ve been watching?! That way all this time wasted on binging TV (Netflix, BBC iPlayer and Amazon Prime – I call them all TV… cause I watch the things on TV) while recovering from the super cold, wouldn’t be totally wasted.
I tried to remember what I’ve seen within the last couple of days; I’ve got shows that I’ve seen before, many times, yet I just put them on while I’m eating (yes, such a big no-no…shaking head with disappointment), others are newest additions advertised on TV that just happened to catch my attention. So, first I listed a few that I vaguely remembered, these were: ‘Ransom’ (90s nostalgia on child abduction), ‘Star Trek Voyager’ (my backdrop to eating) and a new and limited series called ‘Maya and the Three’ (an action packed cartoon exploring the mythology of Aztec, Maya, and Inca), all available on Netflix. Then also, ‘Sense and Sensibility’ on Amazon Prime (further example of my backdrop to eating) and a new show on BBC iPlayer called ‘Showtrial’ (a must see for anyone living in Brizzle).
I went back to these shows and tried to find a moment that, when I paused the TV, would create an interesting and abstract shot. I captured the images on my phone while focusing on a small section of the TV screen, getting to it real close to create a further sense of abstractness. Then I cropped the photos and added various filters from my phone. In hindsight, I should have also taken photos of the actual scenes as they appeared normally, instead of that I spent an hour just now trying to find them (on my laptop and not on the TV). No surprise, I couldn’t, so a lot of them are as close to the original scene as possible (apart from Star Trek Voyager, these I remembered well).
So here are example of this little creative project:
I had lots of fun (minus the frustration of having to find the scenes later on – eh, live and learn as they say) doing this little creative project from the comfort of my bed.
